Our service

Why use a local Turks and Caicos yacht-clearance agent?

Yacht Clearance is an independent information and agent-referral service. We review your plans and connect suitable enquiries with local partners who can coordinate the yacht, people and port arrangements; official decisions remain with the relevant authorities.

1

Choose a workable arrival

A berth, anchorage and government dock each involve different receiving arrangements. Local support can match your yacht’s dimensions, intended route and arrival time to a suitable location before the first port is entered in the voyage notification.

2

Keep reporting consistent

SailClear details, passport information and the actual arrival plan need to agree. A local partner can review the voyage information and flag changes affecting crew, vessel use or permission to stay before they create difficulties during clearance.

3

Coordinate the onward passage

Cruising plans often change with weather, maintenance or guest schedules. Assistance can cover the relevant extension enquiries, departure arrangements and separation of authority charges from marina and agency costs, so the next passage begins with the required clearance in place.

How a Turks and Caicos yacht clearance normally runs

The national reporting framework is shared, while the practical reception depends on the chosen island, marina or harbour.

Before the passage

Border Force requires a SailClear arrival notice at least 24 hours before arrival. Preparation covers the vessel, everyone aboard, the first arrival point and intended stay. Special cargo, pets and commercial activity should be identified early so any additional permissions can be considered.

Arrival and formal entry

Arrival involves face-to-face clearance at a port of entry. The Q flag remains displayed and people stay aboard until clearance is granted, unless the authorities authorise otherwise. Your receiving marina or local partner can coordinate attendance with the yacht’s actual position and arrival time.

Cruising and any changes

The vessel’s cruising permission and each person’s Immigration permission need separate attention. Changes to the itinerary, crew or length of stay should be reviewed before the relevant permission expires. Local coordination is particularly useful when the yacht moves between islands or enters a yard.

Departure from the islands

Outward clearance is required before an international departure, with advance notification through SailClear. The final crew list, next port and departure timing should reflect the actual voyage. A local agent can help align the paperwork with the berth release and planned sailing window.

Turks and Caicos yacht entry requirements

Cruising permission

Border Force describes a cruising permit valid for 90 days, issued through the first arrival port. A longer visit requires attention to renewal and the yacht’s Customs position. The permit concerns the vessel; it does not automatically extend permission for its owner, guests or crew to remain.

Passports and Immigration

Everyone aboard needs a valid passport and any required visa or recognised exemption. Eligibility depends on nationality and supporting status, while Border Force decides admission. Passport validity rules differ for some nationalities, so mixed-nationality crews benefit from an individual document review before travel.

Pets, provisions and restricted goods

Animals require advance Agriculture permission and supporting health documents. Plants, certain food quantities, firearms and ammunition can also require specific permissions or declarations. Include these matters in the initial enquiry; a normal yacht arrival report does not replace approval from the responsible department.

Private use and commercial activity

Pleasure-craft clearance covers recreational use. Paid passenger operations, guided fishing, workboats and commercial cargo can bring different Customs rules and additional licences into scope. Describe the actual operation, including any proposed charter activity, so it can be assessed before guests or goods are committed to the voyage.

FAQ

Turks and Caicos Islands Yacht Clearance questions

Which Turks and Caicos ports can visiting yachts use?

Border Force’s pleasure-craft list names South Dock on Grand Turk; Blue Haven Marina, South Bank Marina, South Dock, Southside Marina and Sapodilla Bay on Providenciales; and Cockburn Harbour on South Caicos. These locations offer different receiving arrangements. The port pages explain their individual roles.

Does SailClear complete Customs and Immigration clearance?

No. SailClear provides advance voyage information; the authorities still complete the formal arrival or departure clearance. A marina booking also does not replace that clearance.

Can a yacht stop only for fuel without clearing in?

A refuelling visit is not a general exemption from reporting. Border Force treats anchoring or tying up as entry for the pleasure-craft procedure. Include a short technical stop in the arrival arrangements before relying on a quick turnaround.

What does yacht clearance cost?

Border Force currently publishes US$50 inbound and US$50 outbound clearance fees, plus US$300 for the cruising permit. Overtime can apply, and marina, port and agency charges are separate. Ask for the applicable charges for your actual visit rather than treating these figures as an all-inclusive quote.

Can everyone aboard stay for the full cruising-permit period?

Not automatically. Each person must comply with the stay authorised by Immigration. A longer visit requires a timely request to Border Force and an updated outbound SailClear notification; extending the yacht’s arrangements alone is insufficient.

What if illness or an emergency changes the arrival?

Medical, mechanical or weather emergencies require immediate notification on arrival. Notifiable illness or relevant communicable-disease exposure also needs Environmental Health involvement. Local assistance can help coordinate the changed reception, but an emergency stop should not be treated as completed clearance.

Does yacht clearance allow chartering or unrestricted anchoring?

No. Commercial operations and protected-area activities have separate requirements. DECR requires a National Park Licence for commercial activity within a protected area; park boundaries and permitted activities also matter to the proposed itinerary. A clearance or cruising permit does not replace those permissions.

What details should I send to request an agent?

Provide the yacht’s name, flag, length, beam and draft; private or commercial use; people aboard; last and next ports; preferred arrival location; and expected dates. Add any pets, restricted goods, repairs or crew changes. We review the enquiry before introducing a suitable local partner.
